Phil Beer Solo

Jan Tregeagle. Oddfolk. (1972)

My first ever recording studio experience in an 8 track set up in Torquay. The name now eludes me. My partner Colin Wilson read up an old Cornish legend and turned it into a song cycle. I think we were both heavily influenced by Fairport and specifically ‘John Babbacombe Lee’.  (I still regard this as Fairports finest hour!) After all these years, it’s being turned into an animation.

Mandoline (1978)

Recorded at Mid Wales sound. My first solo album. I persuaded Joe Stead to create a new label name for projects like this. We came up with Greenwich Village records. The cover photo was taken by Glynis Owens in Warwick Downes music shop in Hove. A stones throw from both Steve Knightleys flat and Janice Longs place.

Jon Benns

Many folks will remember Jon as my faithful roadie/ audio butler and companion on the road. He has had a varied career as a radio presenter, musical comedian, theatre manager and tour manager. I recorded his first EP at the infamous Brize Norton RAF folk club in a nissen hut at the end of a runway with aircraft taking off every 15 mins. Many out there will remember!
